I understand a little. The place I was before, the Keeper's Manse in Arcadia, was like that for us. We weren't really people either for most of the time I was there. Then the Keeper disappeared and we started becoming more like people again because he (she?) wasn't there anymore. We started acting outside of what the Keeper wanted us doing, even though Mason (the house) tried to get us to stop that and do our work again.
But the Keeper didn't stop me from being able to hurt people, because my job there was to make sure the others in my wing did their work. And if they didn't I was supposed to punish them.
He'd only been vanished a few days when I came here. So I was still used to being like that. It took me a while to figure out I could be anything else.
I didn't know that there were other people like us that weren't Changelings.
